Athlete Development Summit

What is the Athlete Development Summit?

The Athlete Development Summit (ADS) was a concept first created by the NFLPA and hosted by the NFL in 2002. In conjunction with the NBA, it was expanded to include additional leagues and experts in the field of athlete development. Since then, the ADS has evolved into an annual conference attracting many of the leaders in athlete development from major sports organizations around the world. The ADS provides athlete development specialists with a forum for connecting with representatives of a wide variety of organizations in the profession and sharing best practices and ideas in the field of athlete development. Previous ADS conferences have also included a diverse array of speakers and topics. Among these speakers were David Stern, Commissioner of the NBA, Dr. Jim Loehr of the Human Performance Institute, Mike Whan, Commissioner of the LPGA, and many other high profile speakers from the fields of sport and athlete development.

The Athlete Development Summit & Symposium is essentially a 3 day event. The first day consists of the Research Symposium where presentations are given based on a selection of candidates who have been chosen based on the quality and demonstration of their research. The 2 day Summit consists of speakers that are highly trained in their field and present on how they “do development”. We have speakers come from all over the world to engage and share their development insights on their craft.

Our Global Partners attend the conference each year along with athletes, coaches, player development specialists, students, and anyone in the sports industry with an interest in Athlete Development.

 Quotes from past ADS Attendees:

In our field, it is important to have a platform to form relationships and lean on each other for ideas on best practices. There are so many people doing such great things in our field, that we can all learn from each other. This to me is why coming to ADS is worth every penny. The ability to communicate and collaborate with people internationally and across different sports really allows you to gain a global view of what is being done in our space. I commend PAADS on providing a forum for continued education and growth on best practices. I am super excited to attend the conference next year and for years to come.

- Jacques McClendon- LA Rams, Director of Player Engagement

As an Athletic Development Coordinator and Strength Coach, the PAADS Athlete Development Summit is great because it gives me access to different leadership skills, mentoring skills, and athlete development, aside from just the “sets and reps and weights,” which is my medium of work. It helps make me a more complete coach and mentor to my athletes, so I highly recommend it.

– Jim Malone, St. Louis Cardinals

I look forward to coming to ADS every year because of the opportunity to collaborate and share best practices with some of the greatest, most dedicated individuals who are improving athlete development. It’s one of the greatest things that I do throughout the year in terms of getting better at what I do.

- Rory Sparrow, Vice President of Player Development, NBA
